Hi all,

I'm using fai (2.10) on ubuntu dapper. The fai clients are using kernel
2.6.15 provided by the fai-kernels package (version 1.10.3ubuntu2)

The setup i have seems to be fine as it works perfectly on other
machines. This appears to be a problem specific to this machine.

The install goes well until it reaches the disk partitioning section.
Then i see the following:

Calling task_partition
Partitioning local harddisks
setup_harddisks version 0.38fai
Probing disks:
Disks found:

Using config file: /fai/disk_config/FAIBASE
Mapping disk name disk1 to
ERROR: could not read device /dev/
setup_harddisks version 0.38fai
Probing disks:
Disks found:

Using config file: /fai/disk_config/FAIBASE
Mapping disk name disk1 to
cp: cannot stat `/var/log/fai/current/disk_var.sh': No such file or
directory
setup_harddisks did not create /var/log/fai/current/disk_var.sh file.

The blank device names lead me to look at /proc/partitions which appears
to be used by fai to decide which device to install on. /proc/partitions
is empty on this machine:

root at miri:~#cat /proc/partitions
major minor #blocks name

In dmesg i see the following error:

root at miri:~# dmesg|tail
usbcore: registered new driver usbmouse
drivers/usb/input/usbmouse.c: v1.6:USB HID Boot Protocol mouse driver
Probing IDE interface ide1...
SCSI subsystem initialized
Fusion MPT base driver 3.03.04

Fusion MPT SPI Host driver 3.03.04
ACPI: bus type scsi registered
libata version 1.20 loaded.
Driver 'sd' needs updating - please use bus_type methods

I'm guessing this is some kind of kernel problem with this specific
hardware. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John
