FAI behaviour changed?

Hi,

after a long time at 2.6.x, I by mistake upgraded FAI on my install 
server to 2.8. Now the class-specific package_config files are read
as I can check in fai.log but obviously they are superseded by
tasksel's:

install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/DEFAULT
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/MERLIN
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/MERLIN_MASTER
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/XFREE
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/GNOME
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/SERVER
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/COMPILE
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/RAID_3WARE_9000
install_packages: read config file /fai/package_config/FAISERVER
install_packages: executing chroot /tmp/target tasksel -n install science
install_packages: executing chroot /tmp/target tasksel -n install tex
install_packages: executing chroot /tmp/target tasksel -n install desktop

Within FAISERVER, there are "fai" and "fai-kernels" but they don't show 
up in the package listing below. Neither do the 3ware utilities defined
in RAID*, nor does "nedit" etc. 

Did I miss an important point in the changelogs?
What's the correct way to cope with this behaviour?
