I am not so familiar with Debian versioning...

The pxelinux and syslinux installed on my FAI server seem to be version 6.03:

# dpkg -l pxelinux syslinux-common
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name                    Version          Architecture     Description
+++-=======================-================-================-===================================================
ii pxelinux 3:6.03+dfsg-14.1 all collection of bootloaders (PXE network bootloader)
ii syslinux-common 3:6.03+dfsg-14.1 all collection of bootloaders (common)

The latest version of syslinux on Kernel.org as well is 6.03 from 2014.

So on first sight they looked like the same to me.

Nevertheless, I downloaded the version from Kernel.org and replaced the EFI boot files in /srv/tftp/fai/ on my FAI server.

To my big surprise, the PXE boot in UEFI mode works with those replaced images!
Good hint, Thomas!

Now, this is a big step forward.
(UEFI installation provides more issues - there is more to come...)

Thanks to all who provided input and ideas!
Frank
