I can confirm that I have the FQDN in /tmp/net.eth0.hostname. (FAI
4.1.1 and dracut 036-1). It includes this line:
cat demohost > /proc/sys/kernel/hostname

But in boot.log (created from the DHCP data) I only have the short
name. This file is sourced in task_confdir, and then the variable
HOSTNAME is set to the short host name.

The command uname -a and hostname still return the FQDN.
But this difference causes no problems in my installations.
