GRUB_PC (simple example): still doesn't work

I think you are confusing the intention for GRUB and GRUB_PC.
GRUB_PC is for grub2 bootloader. We successfully installed
Ubuntu/Karmic, which uses grub2 as default, with a Debian/lenny FAI
server or with a Ubuntu/karmic FAI server.
GRUB is for the older grub legacy bootloader.
So double check your package list for your target system, if grub2
or grub-legacy will be used on your target.
