Phil,

I tried you patch and PACKAGES install will now install packages of
the form package/distro unfortunately you patch does not seem to
resolve the dependency issues. I tried to install xorg from
backports.org and it fails because of dependency issues. Have you
tired installing xorg with any success with your patch? Also are you
aware that PACKAGES aptitude can install packages of the form
package/distro without your patch? PACKAGES aptitude will install
simple packages like yaird, udev, or a 2.6.16 kernel with no problems
it is only programs like xorg with complex dependencies were I have
problems. You might want too look at this thread on the subject:
