task_mirror - problem

Hi group, I am having a weird Problem here:

when installing my machine - let's call it holodeck - the machine has 
FAI_DEBMIRROR defined as:

FAI_DEBMIRROR=$'phlox:/var/debmirror\r'

(from variables.sh)

and the nfs-server syslogs:

Feb 10 11:41:55 phlox rpc.mountd: refused mount request from 10.3.19.233 
for /var/debmirror^M (/): no export entry
---%<---

the same happens when root at holodeck types

# mount $FAI_DEBMIRROR $MNTPOINT
---%<---

but the mount works when I type:

# mount 10.3.19.233:/var/debmirror /mnt2
---%<---

I am POSITIVE that both /etc/fai/fai.conf and $NFSROOT/etc/fai/fai.conf 
are in unix fileformat (as opposed to DOS-format, where one usually finds 
spurious ^M's)

- Is $FAI_DEBMIRROR touched or redefined anywhere else than in fai.conf?
- Could this be an encoding-problem? (fai-server's default is utf8)
