I think the kernel package is missing...

Do you have this file
/usr/lib/fai/kernel/kernel-image-2.4.26-fai_1_i386.deb on your fai server
?

This is the kernel to install on the client except if you change this in the
DEFAULT.var file or in the client_class.var file...
