Since you said you were using static settings, these would be kernel 
boot-parameters; 

ip=<client-ip>:<server-ip>:<gw-ip>:<netmask>:<hostname>:<device>:<autoconf>

is the correct syntax , refer to <KERNEL-SRC>/Documentation/nfsroot.txt for 
further reading!
