Is there a life after LAST.var ?

Since FAI 2.4, it looks like it is hard to do an installation without
modifying the sample LAST.var or writing one from scratch.

Since I was used to use the sample files and adding my own stuff it change
the philosophy.

Now I need to compare the LAST.var from an old to a new FAI version and
backport the modifications to my own version of LAST.var... :-(

For my point of view it does not scale well but I may be wrong ?
