Don't know about MD5 but for shaddow we have 

root at l2:/usr/local/share/fai/scripts/DEFAULT# ls
S01  S20  S21_use_shaddow_passwd  S22_do_initrd
root at l2:/usr/local/share/fai/scripts/DEFAULT# less S21_use_shaddow_passwd
#! /bin/bash
