Kernel installation depmod trouble

I'm switching to FAI 2.5 (and back to woody to have a first version
working).
I have a problem in DEFAULT/S01 during kernel installation with my kernel
built with
make-kpkg --append-to-version +rire-router --revision 1.0 kernel-image
+ '[' kernel-image-2.4.22+rire-router ']'
+ yes ''
+ chroot /tmp/target apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.22+rire-router

There was a problem running depmod. This may be benign,
(You may have versioned symbol names, for instance).
Or this could be an error.
depmod exited with return value 1
In any case, since depmod is run at install time,
we could just defer running depmod
Would you like to abort now? [Yes] dpkg: error processing kernel-image-2.4.22+rire-router (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
kernel-image-2.4.22+rire-router
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
There is a "yes | " in front of the apt-get that is OK most of the time
but it is odd when the kernel-image package asks for "do you want to abort
now?". :-)
I've changed the line to
[ "$addpackages" ] && yes 'no' | $ROOTCMD apt-get install $addpackages
and the machine was able to boot.
Of course it is not a decent solution. Ah, if we could put all this kind
of stuff in debconf...
PS : the old kernelimage variable in older FAI was usefull to have the "last
set value wins" behaviour to choose the correct kernel to install. Now it
is gone to the addpackages variable and it is harder to use.
