network not configured on reboot

Hi all,

I've sucessfully got fai installing my clients and booting into X, but along the way i've broken the network card setup.

The machines boot up and ifconfig is aware of eth0 but there is no address or gateway.

/etc/network/interfaces has

iface eth0 inet static
        address
        netmask
        network
        broadcast
        gateway

but no values.
If I do 'ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' networking works fine.
Has anyone got any clues?

I'm booting off a bootfloppy that has always worked, and using a 2.4.18 kernel thats previously been OK.
thanks
Mike
