Which kind of crash ? Please give more details !

Can you send me the log files please. Send them to
fai at informatik.uni-koeln.de but not to the mailling list ! Do you have
a local Debian mirror (via NFS) or are you using HTTP access to a
mirror ?

Because the 2.2 kernel will be the default for Debian 3.0 AFAIK. But
it should be no problem to use the 2.4 kernel when installing Debian 3.0
