So let me give it a try; comments are most welcome. Mika, would you subsequently
take on the task of sending this one out?

Best,
Michael

Dear release team,

As previously reported in DPN 07/2011 and in more detail at [1] the FAI
developers were holding a meeting more than one month ago. In this meeting a
large number of bugs got fixed in FAI and a new release, 3.4.8, was prepared
afterwards. This version closes 6 bugs, two of them being important and
affecting squeeze.

We are now looking for your opinion about uploading 3.4.8 to s-p-u. We well
understand that the changelog entry for 3.4.8 (appended below), listing 41
single commits, looks a bit intimidating. Yet all of them are bug fixes, even
though most of the bugs had not previously been reported to the Debian BTS. Two
exceptions to this rule must also be noted: [bdfc127] introduced a new feature
in setup-storage, enabling user-defined partition alignment. Yet we believe that
this feature is important to ensure efficient operation on current hardware and
large storage systems. The second new feature, first added in [8e201f9], does
not affect in any way the operation of FAI if not used, hence we considered it
safe to add.

We have given our users now quite a while of testing this version and thus far
have not received any information about regressions.
