Seminars in Neurosciences zoologie-neurokoll at uni-koeln.de
Do Jun 16 11:41:30 CEST 2011

Dear all,

on 21.06 (next Tuesday) we will have a visit at MPI for neurological
research in Cologne by Yasuomi Sato (Kyushu Institute of Technology,
Dept. Brain Science and Engineering, Brain-Like Information Processing
Machines Division, Japan,
http://www.brain.kyutech.ac.jp/brain_e/people/)
<http://www.brain.kyutech.ac.jp/brain_e/people/%29,>, who is doing
research on models of synchronization and desynchronization in neural
networks. He will be holding a talk (title and abstract below, 13:30
Seminar Room 2, 2nd floor) about his recent work and he of course will
be happy to have a discussion on it. Everybody having interest in this
topic is more than welcome to join us!

Liebe Leute,

am 21.06 (nächster Dienstag) besucht uns am MPI für neurologische
Forschung in Köln Yasuomi Sato (Kyushu Institute of Technology, Dept.
Brain Science and Engineering, Brain-Like Information Processing
Machines Division, Japan,

TITLE:
Introduction: Theoretical and Computational Analyses on Synchronization
of Neuronal Activities.

ABSTRACT:
We briefly explain not only research backgrounds on studying mechanisms
of synchronization of
neuronal activity, but also theoretical and computational analyses on
synchronization phenomena
in a pair of coupled neuronal oscillators. In these analyses,
derivations of a one-dimensional
phase equation and the response curves (PRCs) for neuronal oscillators
are significantly
necessary for theoretical understanding. The derivation method of the
phase equation, called the
phase reduction method, is to describe external perturbations as the
phase. Many of researchers
have been trying theoretical construction of this method. Also, in 2005,
the experimental
corrections were showed by observing so-called spike time advances in
the physiological
experiment, related to the PRCs. This shows further developmental
possibilities for the phase
reduction method as well as the theoretical analysis on synchronization
using the obtained phase
equation. We show (i) construction of the phase reduction for a weakly
coupled of stochastic
oscillator systems and (ii) Neural temperature modulated PRCs and
synchronization transition.
