Abstract zum Vortrag
--------------------
This presentation discusses the issues confronting massively parallel systems
and Linux compute clusters when using todays storage architectures. The
discussion is based on HLRS' practical experience with scalable global parallel
file systems of various types, most notably NEC GFS, SGI CXFS, and Lustre. New
storage architectures based on the ANSI T10 Object-based Storage Device (OSD)
may improve the file sharing capabilities needed for scientific/technical
applications by an order of magnitude. The Panasas ActiveScale File System, the
Linux Cluster File System, Lustre, and the IBM StorageTank SAN File System all
aim at improving the performance and scalability of the metadata server by
deferring block level processing to the OSD. Finally, parallel interfaces
between file systems will be considered for the explicit use of layering entire
file systems on HSMs. Examples will be shown for interfacing the open source
Lustre to various HSM systems.
