using nfsroot-hooks

Anybody got some good example scripts for using w/i nfsroot-hooks? Some 
things I want to do:

1.Configure locale.
2. Install apt keys.
3. Restore ssh keys from a backup.

Take #2 for example. I need to install something called mcauley on my 
workstations. It has it's own debian repository.  I have a script that 
does an fcopy to install a deb source file into /etc/apt/sources.list.d 
and then runs a $ROOTCMD to download and add the key. I'd like to 
reproduce that in my nfsroot but I don't think I can use fcopy, $target, 
or $ROOTCMD.

I am just looking for tips on how people deal with this stuff.
