This is still possible in FAI and will always remain possible. That's
very important for me. Sometimes I like to point people to tools, that
makes their work easier. That's why I proposed fai-chboot in this situation.

IMO fai-chboot is the easiest way to get a correct pxelinux
configuration. It's still possible to edit the pxelinux.cfg/* files
manually. You can also still set FAI_CONFIG_SRC in
$nfsroot/etc/fai/fai.conf, but it's not done my fai-make-nfsroot any
more.

For example, I also edit my pxelinux.cfg files manually (after I've
created them via fai-chboot) for adjusting some parameters. After that I
rename it to .tmpl and then I use fai-chboot -vc to copy the
template to a host specific file. So, I'm using a combination of
manual editing and using the tools that make my live easier.
