Clarification regarding disk_var.sh variable significance?

I had two days before the same problem, to get a gpt partition table, mdadm, lvm and without /boot working. Grub2 wasn't successful installed, so I switched back to own md for /boot and changed to msdos partition layout, to get everything working.
