2 reasons i didn't chose something else:
- I stumbled upon yaml first. (searchtopic: "anything but xml")
- the perl library for yaml is very easy to use (if you are used to 
reference juggling arrays, hashes and scalars.) so I didn't search
any further

@ a quick glance: http://search.cpan.org/~makamaka/JSON-2.21/lib/JSON.pm 
is a bit intimidating. I use Yaml::Tiny for parsing
