define rootpw in class/*.var. After all variables are defined, the

Me too, but did not work for me during the installation.
BTW also add this to a cfengine script:

   NISSERVER::
        { ${target}/etc/default/nis
          ReplaceAll "NISSERVER=false" With "NISSERVER=master"
        }
