is DNS necessary?

Is DNS really necessary?  I'd rather not set it up if I don't have to,
I'd rather just work with /etc/hosts file.  DNS isn't listed as a
requirement in section 2.1 of the manual, but yet fai-setup will hang if
you don't have DNS server running.  I can see using DNS in some sort of
heterogeneous setup, but I'm doing a cluster and it really isn't
necessary, imo.
