initrd is neither used nor supported in the current FAI version and I
have no plans and no time to do it by myself. FAI works for most other
hardware without the initial ramdisk. If you can send me patches for
FAI using a initrd, I will consider to include it in FAI.

But your problem with new hardware in not a problem of FAI. It's the
problem of the kernel. And FAI can't solve all problems of other parts
of a linux system.  unfortunately, FAI depends on all these things to
work.

Building a linux cluster starts with choosing supported hardware for an
automatic installation.
