In the old days, this was a dirty hack. It was possible to define the
kernel version in a *.var file, and then use his version number in a
package_config file. But it's not a clean setup if you use variables
in a package_config file. Additionally the subroutine that checks for
correct package names can handle variables and backticks
correctly. Therefore I like to remove this ugly feature.
