I know this project. But gpxe (which is used by etherboot.org) is a
dead project. If you need a more up-to-date version have a look at
ipxe.org. It's the the fork of gpxe and has really nice features. For
e.g. you can boot the kernel and initrd via http. Maybe you can use
the chainloading feature of ipxe, even with your broken PXE
implementation.

On your suggestion, I have used ipxe to boot and it works great,
both over pxe and over http.<br>

However, I am now having some troubles understanding what dracut is
throwing at me, will open a new thread for that.<br>
